Gandalf nodded slowly deep in thought, then said "Yes tht is indeed agood idea - we should summon Scythe - she is renowned for her skill with the blade and with a few more elves, they should definately be a strong defence against the Nazgul." he said to the group at large though really directing his speech towards Sairalinde and Aragorn. He turnbed to Aragorn - "I think it would be bes if we went together, Aragorn. Though we must stay here for 1 night until Brego will be ale to be ridden again." At this moment, Tari had gallopped away and everyone looked around "Excellent! Tari is fetching Scythe for us!" he said cheerily

Tari whinnied for Scythe at the top of her lungs, searching physically and mentally for her true master.
Aragorn set about building a quicky-fortress around the group using spears and limbs from trees that he was sharpening. Pippin bounced back and forth between helping Aragorn (which he was now scooping out a very small "cave" beneath the tree roots), helping Sairalinde and Mardigan replace their bandages, and chatting with Gandalf. in between each rotation he'd take a swig from the liquor bottle and stir the stew that he was making. ((busy little guy))

Aragorn took a break from digging to speak with Gandalf, his voice hushed when he spoke, "what's the reality of us getting out of here alive? of the elves making it through their wounds?" Pippin paused from what he was doing to eavesdrop.

Gandalf looked down at the ground so his hat covered his face and murmered to Aragorn after a pause "I don't know Aragorn." a short pause, then "It depends on how fast the injuries heal and how many reinforcements Scythe will bring - she will need many archers with many arrows. The Nazgul cannot be killed by ant man, though Scythe is a woman so there may be a chance - and the arrows will hold them off until everyone is fit enough to leave. We need more horses too which hopefully Scythe will bring." When they have horses and are well, they can catch up with Scythe. We will be fine" He nodded as though convincing himself as well as Aragorn.
The next morning, in their new fortress, the company awoke. After a breakfast everyone was looking around for Scythe and Tari expectantly, waiting for the defense they needed so badly... Gandalf had been sitting alone on a rock smoking his pipe for some time before dawn and had watched the sun rise, too anxious to sleep any longer... He turned when he heard signs of life from within the camp, reassured that the company had survived the night - it couldnt be long now until the Nazgul returned... But for what, even Gandalf didn't know - Sauron must surely know that Frodo had the ring, so what was it he was after...? He had pondered this question all morning and was also waiting for Tari and Scythe, which doubled his anxiety further.

Tari pranced happily as she guided her master back to the camp. Scythe gasped at the scene before her. there was blood everywhere! she looked at Tari, hopelessness in her eyes. Tari shook her head and flicked her tail for Scythe to mount back up. Scythe obliged and Tari lead the patrol of horse-riding elves to the new camp/fortress. Aragorn pulled his sword out halfway, ready for a fight. Sairalinde had Pippin help her stand up and used him as a crutch when she walked over to greet the elves. "mae govannon, Scythe." Scythe inclined her head, ice blue eyes flicking from one traveler to another. "Tari said i was needed and she promised a fight."

Gandalf saw Tari from far away as she approached with the band of elves. He smiled and stood up from his hidden position amonst the trees. When Tari and Scythe entered the camp, he approached them and inclined his head to Scythe "Cormamin lindua ele lle, Scythe" then said in elvish "We have rescently been attacked by Nazgul and the Witchking himself. I have done everything I can to help the injured, and we have abuilt a fotress as you can see, but we desperately need aid - would you protect them, Scythe? Aragorn and I must leave them to seek Merry who has been taken by the Uruks, and now I feel sure they will be safe under your wing, if you consent to of course" he bowed courteously(sp?) to her as he said this last part

Scythe raised an eyebrow when Gandalf spoke in the elven tongue, "Gandalf the White? Mithrandir? i've heard much about you." she glanced at the wounded again, "we will stay to guard the wounded, but as a trade. Gambit! read out our terms." a male elf stepped forward, youthful and eager to prove himself. he didn't read out the terms, rather, he spoke them from memory. "in return for guarding the wounded and warding off any danger that comes seeking their blood, we ask you; Mithrandir, and you; Aragorn son of Arathorn, to help us in eradicating the Urukai from the lands of Rohan. the Uruks have wiped out countless villages and are heading for the castle itself. Rohan cannot fall, for they are the last defense before Sauron's hand stretches to Gondor. do you except these terms?" Aragorn glanced at Gandalf before completely sheathing his sword, "i agree to your terms, only if the rest of the Company may fight beside us when the time comes." Scythe snorted, "we assumed that!"

Gandalf nodded after glancing at Aragorn, and looked over a Sairalinde in a half amused way. He looked back at Scythe "We do indeed accept these terms. We will eradicate as many Uruk-hai as we can on our way then we shall return to join you in wiping out the rest. Is this to your approval Scythe?" he asked, leaning on his staff and looking at her with his piercing blue eyes.

Scythe smiled, her eyes glittering with relief and excitement, "this does indeed come to my approval, Mithrandir. such with your acceptance of our terms come the acceptance of yours; we will defend the helpless while you search for Meriadoc." Aragorn mentally sighed with relief, then imediatly swung aboard Brego. "Merry cannot afford for us to wait, Gandalf. we should leave imediatly." Scythe held up a hand, "i will send four of my warriors to go with you. two cannot defeat the host of Uruk hai bearing Meriadoc." she turned to her assembled warriors, "Ireth, Elladan, Elrohir, and Syla! you four will accompany Mithrandir and Aragorn!" two men and two women elves rode their horses forward.

Gandalf's old, wise face crinkled in a smile as he bowed to Scythe then jumped aboard Shadowfax. "Many thanks again Scythe. Vanya sulie!" and with thi last word he kicked Shadowfax into a gallop, heading for the open plains, past where they had battled the Nazgul, and futher until they reached a huge lake when the party slowed to a trot so Gandalf could talk to Aragorn. It was now midday, and the sun sparkled down upon the great lake and streamed down on them and their steeds - Shadowfax shining like the water beside them. Gandalf turned to Aragorn. "Do you see any tracks Aragon? Any sign at all of the uruks?" his face was taught with anxiety, despite the bright sunlight.

Aragorn had followed Gandalf and Shadowfax aboard Brego, closly followed by the elven host. when Gandalf brough Shadowfax to a halt, Aragorn and the elves did the same. the Ranger slid off his horse and landed lightly on the ground. he felt every indenture of the eart, prodded every tuft of grass, and even picked up a few handfulls of dirt to smell. satisfied, he stood up. "the Uruks went this way, alright. but we've a problem. they split in two, one group heading for Saurman and the other headed for Sauron."
Ireth piped up, "your friend is a halfling, correct?" Aragorn nodded. Ireth grinned, "then what use would Sauron have for such a creature?" Aragorn glanced at Gandalf, not really wanting to be the one to tell the elves that a halfling bore the ring.

Gandalf shifted on Shadowfax slightly as he heard the elf speak. Pretending he was deep in thought he spoke up at last saying "We should split into two groups and persue the uruks. I shall go to Sauron while Aragorn goes to Saruman" he looked inquiringly at Aragorn to see if he agreed with this plan.

Aragorn nodded in approval. "Ireth and Elladan, travel with Mithrandir. the rest, come with me." Aragorn jogged Brego over to Shadowfax and handed Gandalf a horn, "blow on this if you run into trouble. we'll come as soon as we can." with that, he clucked to Brego and lead his hunting party at a full gallop towards Isengard."
Pippin felt quite at home with the new elves, they'd brought liqour. "it's just elf wine," Scythe said, "it's not very strong." Pippin took at anyway, "beats nothin'. bottoms up!" he said with a laugh before indulging himself in the drink.

Gandalf nodded and turned to the two elves who were to be his companions. His stern expression cracked into a smile for the briefest of moments, before he said "Well my friends. We are to be companions for quite a while are we not? Come." he turned Shadowfax so he faced East, in the direction of Mordor where the sky burned dark red and the hills of Mordor blotted out the sky, but this dreaded place was far off yet. As they moved off he waved farewell to Scythe, Aragorn and Pippin saying "I thankyou most warmly Scythe. I say farewell, for now, and good luck!" he turned back to the pair beside him as they headed off together. "As I was saying - we shall be spending a long time together, so we may as well get to know each other... I'm Gandalf the White, or as the elves call me, Mithrandir." he smiled as he looked ahead of him waiting for their replies.
