Aragorn sat a yard or so away from the group, taking the first watch. he too was puffing on his pipe and enjoying the night.
Pippin was only buzzed from the liquor, and was quite content after his meal. he tried to go to sleep, but he couldn't as he'd grown used to Sairalinde tucking him in like a child.
Sairalinde had given up scouting, and was on her way back. suddenly she heard a stirring nearby, and she reined Tari in to a halt. Sairalinde whipped out her blade Ixxa, brandishing it high as a warning to whomever was trying to ambush her. "show yourself, coward of the Night!" a man emerged from the forest, red flowing hair and gold ring in his ears. an orange feather hung at his neck. Sairalinde reconized him imediatly, "Mad Mardigan! what's kept you in this forest?" Mardigan smiled, "various things. you seem in a rush, what ails you?" Sairalinde's smile faded, "Merry's been captured by orcs. my company and me are following the orcs in search of him, but the trail is confusing and full of tricks." Mardigan bowed, "i'll accompany you and your company. it's been quite some time since the Trickster has gone on a search. as for the trail, you're following it with wrong intentions." "what?" "i'll explain at the camp."

((ooc: ugh im so bored of Gandalf. I'll bring in some nazgul >: ) ))
Gandalf slept, but not too heavily in case of an attack which was probably lucky.....
High above the forest, a fellbeast, black as the night and wings like shadows, glided above mounted by the Witchking. He watched th egound, eyes hidden beneath his helmet and spotted the dying glow of a fire. He smiled wickedly to himself and ordered the fellbeast down. It dived so quickly, it looked like a bird shot from the sky. They plummeted nearer and nearer until they were right above th ecanopy of trees and the fellbeast screeched, enough to wake the dead. The Witchking drew his sword and slashed at Aragorn who was nearest

((oorah! battle!))
Aragorn tried to dodge the blow by rolling, but got a cut on his back regardless of his attempt. pushing past the pain, Aragorn leapt to his feet and drew his sword.
Pippin jumped up and started to pull out his own sword but felt a strong, delicate hand on his shoulder. Sairalinde's voice caressed his ear, "follow Gandalf and get the horses out of here. don't wait for us!" Pippin gulped, half relieved that he wouldn't have to fight and half scared for his friends. but the furiosity (sp?) in Sairalinde's eyes reassured him, so Pippin caught up with Gandalf and relayed the orders.
Mardigan was already beside Aragorn, slashing out at the Nazgul. Sairalinde dashed to Aragorn's other side, completing the wall between teh Nazgul and the rest of the company. Mardigan had a huge smile on his face, "long time since i got to do this! Aragorn, how you doin' old chap?" Aragorn didn't answer, he just kept swinging at the Nazgul. the cut in his back was deeper than he thought it was, and he was losing energy fast. Sairalinde noted Aragorn's condition, "how long can you last, friend?" "i'll last." "fair enough!" Mardigan butt into the conversation, elbowing Aragorn good-naturedly in the ribs before turning his attention to the Nazgul again.

Gandalf leapt to his feet and drew his sword and staff, pulling off the grey shawl thing from his shoulkders and his bright, white robes blazed suddenly as he raised the staff and shot a pure bolt o white light at the creature and the Witchking screamed and raised an arm to block the garish light and the fellbeast rose into the air away from the light but not defeated.... Gandalf spun around and shouted "Pippin! Come with me!" and he lifted the hobbit onto his own little steed and said back to Aragorn and the rest "Catch up with us! I will get Pippin to safety by the Old Oak" (i made that up btw) and he mounted Shadowfax and summoned Pippin to follow. They gallopped further into the forest, but not too far from the edge. They needed to stay hidden, but not too far away to see the plains where they would've been travelling. The Old Oak was further in the forest. It was a place where the trees were so thick together that a Nazgul could never get through the canopy by means of airial transport (fellbeasts)...... However, it was a place where the unexpected could happen and strange creatures lurked, but they had Gandalf and Aragorn which was protection enough.
Meanwhile, the Witchking's screams had been heard by another. A few miles away, another Nazgul twisted around in its saddle of the fellbeast and sped away towards his Master's call... The Witchking was furious. He would NOT let a stupid wizard ward him off with some light. His eyes blazed scarlet through his helmet and he let out a terrible, ear-splittingly long screech and dived again towards the ground. This time he landed the terrible beast and dismounted. He pulled out his sword and malice slowly and silently. He walked towards Aragorn and Mardigan who were the nearest again. He approached and swung the malice ruthlessly. Meanwhile the fellbeast was approaching the remaining horses and was hissing horribly. The horses were tied to the trees and were nickering and desperately trying to bolt. They screamed but not as loud as the fellbeast did - it opened its black mouth agape, teeth like dark swords and bellowed at the poor beasts simply for the pleasure of their terror. It grinned and struck at Brego, catching him on the leg. The poor horses' eyes rolled in terror and pain and froth flew from his mouth.............................

Pippin kept glancing over his shoulder at the bloody scene behind him as he and Gandalf galloped their horses towards safety.
Aragorn's attention was diverted for a moment, "Brego!" Brego blinked the pain out of his eyes and pricked his ears at his master's call and whickered. Tari, meanwhile, had gnawed through the rope that tethered her and was plunging towards the Fellbeast, tearing through its foul-smelling flesh with her teeth and hooves. Mardigan's chestnut horse, Majkirai, had been loose from the begining. but, like his master, he was too overjoyed at the thought of battle to take off. at this moment he'd just finished chewing through Brego's reins and was now beside Tari whilst Brego limped after Pippin and Gandalf.
Sairalinde cried out when the Witch King sliced down with his sword and tore through the flesh on her shoulder. regardless, she still fought valiantly, though the pain and bloodloss was draining her energy.
Aragorn raised his head to the sky, "there's another Nazgul coming! retreat, we can't hold these. split up and don't follow Pippin and Gandalf until the Nazgul are gone." Mardigan stopped in mid nod, "but Brego's hurt, you've no way of escaping these. take Majkirai, he's not wounded and Sairalinde needs Tari due to her injury. I alone have no injury." Sairalinde and Aragorn nodded and the three went thier separate ways.

The fellbeast snarled horribly at Tari and lunged and caught her by the mane and wrenched her to the ground then proceeded to attack the other horses who stood no chance. The Witchking smiled behind his visor and said in a voice of pure venom "There's no hope for you and your company... I know who you seek" he swung the malice again, driving Aragorn and Sairalinde back "Your horses will be a welcome meal for my beast"
Meanwhile, Gandalf and Pippin were at the Old Oak. They dismounted and stood waiting for the rest of the company to join them. Gandalf was worried. He hadnt wanted to leave the company when a deadly foe such as the Witchking himself were there, 'probably massacring them' he thought sadly. He paced around the tree thinking and worrying. He drew his long grey cloak over himself again and the scene seemed to dull without the white-light of Gandalf's robes shining. He wanted to return but knew he couldnt without leaving Pippin in this dangerous area of the forest. When the others returned they would take a little time to recover thn leave. They were delayed, very delayed; Merry had probably already been taken in by the Orcs........

the sight of Tari being attacked fueled the fires of rage in Sairalinde. setting the pain in her shoulder aside, she shot forward with a cry and hacked down into the Fellbeast's neck. she struck it again and again until the head fell free of the body.
Pippin stroked his horse's neck subconciously, trying to get the images out of his mind of what MIGHT be going on in the camp. Brego reached Pippin and Gandalf and was nickering to the white wizard, pleading for some cure for his leg.
Aragorn had mounted up on Majkirai and was trying to lead the other Nazgul on a chase.
Mardigan was doing a rather ridiculous dance before the first Nazgul, taunting him of the death of his Beast.

The witchking swivelled round, too slow to stop the elf from killing his steed. He hissed and strode foward to Sairalinde - he raised the sword and stuck it deep into her soulder. He twisted the evil blade ruthlessly and ripped the sword out. He smiled wickedly and turned to face Mardigan. Raising the sword again threateningly and said "Get out of my way, human, before I kill you like the elf" he said in a deadly whisper enough to chill the bone.
Gandalf stopped his pacing and turned to see Brego. His leg was in tatters and Gandalf approached the proud steed. He stroked the muzzle saying "lie down" sofltly in Brego's ear. Once he had done so with difficulty, Gandalf examined the leg. Black saliva had mingled with the red blood and it looked poisonous. Gandalf moved his hands over the wound and whispered a spell in elvish. He kneeled for a long time beside Brego, repeating the spell to heal. Shadowfax appoached the pair, keeping a respectable distance and lowered his great head to look into Brego's eyes calmly telling him it would be OK. Once Ganalf had completed the spell, and Brego's leg was better, Gandalf said to him in elvish "You must not get up. Your leg may be healed, but it is not yet strong enough to bear your weight. Just lie down an relax" however, Gandalf's voice sounded far from relaxed, and he got out a pouch of water and held it by Brego's mouth.
The other Nazgul had come to the forest. It looked down and saw the witchking with his steed, dead, and in ager he dived. However, a glimpse of movement caught his attention - a rider gallopping away from the scene, probably off to get reinforcements, the nagul thought. He changed direction in mid air, pelting at full speed down, down, lower over the open plain, about to pick off the rider with a snap of the jaw.......

Sairalinde cried out in pain, gripped her arm and fell to the ground. blood spilled all around her as her breathing became shallower and shallower. her cry warned Mardigan of the Nazgul's prescence before he spoke. Mardigan glanced over his shoulder at Sairalinde and anger flared up in him. he lunged forward, but the advantage of the Nazgul -that no man could kill him- flung Mardigan back.
Brego nickered his thanks to the wizard and remained laying down as he'd been told. Pippin curled up in a shaky bundle in the curve of the big bay stallion's neck.
Aragorn looked over his shoulder, only to see row after row of sharp black teeth rushing towards him. he encouraged Majkirai faster. spinning in the saddle, he faced the Fellbeast with his sword raised, ready to shove it through the top jaw and up into the skull.

The Witchking glared at Mardigan before saying "I asked you to get out of the way -you didnt. now DIE" and he plunged the deadly blade, off target, but into his arm. He whipped away from the pair he believed not worth bothering about and looked up into the sky. He let out a long, high, piercing shriek then waited. He waited for the sound of hooves, and, within minutes, a black horse, eyes blood red and armoured all over, gallopped into the clearing. He mouted and said to the dying pair, "Do not come between the Nazgul and his prey" then kicked his steed into a gallop, into the night. Gandalf was sick with worry - what had become of the company? he longed to go back, but still knew better. He waited for Aragorn..... waited..... The Nazgul was inches away from Aragorn, but when he saw the blade in Aragorn's hands, he knew better than to try attack the rider.... Instead, the fellbeast lunged at the horses legs and it tripped, both hind legs broken. When the pair lay still, the Nazgul landed the beast and approached Aragorn............. ((ooc: sorry aboutnearly killing all the charries ^^; but i thought that was what a nazgul wud do ))

((XD no worries^^ makes it more fun!))
Aragorn was flung from the saddle when Majkirai went down. Aragorn was alright, but Maj hadn't fared the same; the terrain was rocky and the horse had taken a stone to the skull and killed instantly. standing, Aragorn braced himself for the Nazgul, "be gone or suffer my blade! what say you?"
Mardigan cried out and fell to the ground, gripping the wound in his arm. Sairalinde's breathing was coming in slower and slower intervals.
Pippin stood suddenly and mounted up onto his pony, "i can't take this anymore!" and galloped off towards what was left of the camp.

Gandalf stood up like lightning and shouted "Stop Pippin!" he stretched out a hand and Pippin's steed became slower and slower, pulled back by the wizard's power, until he stopped. Gandal strode over to Pippin "Fool of a Took! You wouldnt have stood a chance against the Witchking himself! I shall go back." he turned back to Shadowfax and asked him in elvish to look after both the horses and Pippin. Then he began walking back the way he had come. When he couldnt stand it any longe, he ran through the trees like lightning with the aid of a speedening spell until he reached he clearing. The bloody scene met his eyes - Sairalinde and Mardigan lay both in a pool of blood. Gandalf's eyes widened in surprise and horror. He walked swiftly over to Sairalinde who looked in a worse state than Mardigan and began muttering the healing spell again. Then he did the same quickly to Mardigan until their wounds were clean and mended. "You've lost too much blood to stand up - do not try to! We will have to stay until you are both fit to leave." He glanced over his shoulder and whistled. Shadowfax would be coming soon, helping Brego to walk hopefully. So Gandalf waited for them. He hated doing this - he knew deep in hi heart that Aragorn wasin deep trouble and longed to track him down and help, but he knew that Sairalinde, Mardigan, Pippin and Brego needed him to watch over them.
The Nazgul approached Aragorn, drawing his sword slowly but stopped short of the reach of Aragorn's sword. He let out a long low hiss and jabbed suddenly at Aragorn and a fight broke out, the two blades flashing - two masters of blades.
Meanwhile, Shadowfax had arrived supporting Brego who was leaning heavily on Shadowfax. Shadowfax helped Brego lay down in the grass at the foot of a great tree then Pippin arrived on his pony. Shadowfax approached Gandalf and put his head down before Gandalf and Gandalf inclined his head too. He knew what he must do - Gandalf took out a beautifully carved wooden horn out of his sac and gave it to Sairalinde and said "Blow this if you are in need of aid and Shadowfax and I will return" then Gandalf mounted Shadowfax and took off like a white streak of light out into the open plains towards Aragorn and the Fellbeast. He whispered words to speed Shadofax and they gallopped closer until Gandalf lifted his staff and a bright, blinding flash of light blazed towards the fellbeast and Nazgul. The rider and steed approached Aragorn at a canter and stopped beside him. The Nazgul meanwhile was writhing and shrieking from the garish light as was theh fellbeast which was now blind.

Pippin cried out and instantly buried his face in his pony's mane when they reached the campsite. as all hobbits, he wasn't used to the site of bloodspill. bloodspill was something that happened in lands far away from hobbits, spilt by and from great heros and heroins. not by hobbits. not by their friends, and certainly not from them. swallowing down the rising bile in his throat, Pippin dismounted and walked slowly to Sairalinde's side. the elf woman had propped herself against a rock, her breath slowly coming back from Gandalf's healing. ((lol, excuse the lack of creativity coming up^^ i'm tired and nervous about grad, i can't think of anything!)) Sairalinde smiled up at the little quivering hobbit, "hello Pip," she said weakly. Pippin raised a hand slowly for her to be quiet, "save your energy." a throb of pain and blood rose anew from Sairalinde's shoulder, and she let out a quivering sigh-of-a-breath. her eyes fluttered closed for a moment as she whispered, "are you going to leave me?" her voice was distant. Pippin knealt beside her, laying a hand on her black hair -which was normally smooth and silky but was now matted with drying blood. "no, i'm going to look after you." a small smile flickered across Sairalinde's face before her eyes closed and she passed out from blood loss. Pippin thought she was gone and gripped her hair tighter in his little hands with grief, "no!" Mardigan slowly rose to his hands and knees and crawled to Pippin and Sairalinde's sides. he layed a bloody hand on Pippin's shoulder, "ssshhh, she's just resting. her body needs to recover." Pippin collapsed into Mardigan's arms, trembling with sobs.
Aragorn nodded to Gandalf and smiled, "it is good that you came, Gandalf. but we've one wounded horse and one that's dead. how are we supposed to get out of here?"

Gandalf didnt answer but watched the Nazgul. It had whipped around to face them and it was making furious hissing noises. It sheathed its sword and climbed swiftly aboard its steed and kicked it into action despite the creature's blindness. The fellbeast lurched into the air, able to see by its master's directions and it flew away East towards Mordor - it didnt dare take on Gandalf AND Aragorn. Gandalf turned back to Aragorn and continued their conversation - "Climb aboard Shadowfax Aragorn. We can discuss that when we re back with the company" and once Aragorn was aboard, they gallopped off back towards the clearing. They entered the clearing at a trot and Gandalf dismounted. "Anything happen while we wre gone?" he asked as he checked everyone for signs of more damage. He reached Pippin who was sobbing and put an arm around the hobbit in comfort and said "Now there Pippin - sit down and have a drink" and he waked Pippin to a tree stump and sat him down and gave him some water. Gandalf turned to face th ewhole group and said "We have two huge problems on our hands. Firstly, most of our number are injured or unable to leave. Secondly, we have no means of leaving yet because 2 of our steeds are injured and dead." he turned to Aragorn "What say you Aragorn?"

Aragorn rubbed the back of his neck, wincing when his rough hands ran over cuts on his neck from when Majkirai fell. "we need shelter, though we can't go far. but at the same time we need to get Merry." he sighed and leaned against his sword, beginning to tire. "i'd say that i or you, Gandalf, should go after Merry. but the wounded need protection, and those Nazgul aren't through with us, i'm sure." Tari whickered in Sairalinde's ear. the elf nodded, deep in thought. "she says that we could summon the elves to look for Merry or stay to guard us wounded. she suggests that we call upon her true master, Scythe, who never goes that far away from Tari." Pippin paused from his drink, "i thought YOU were Tari's master. who's this Scythe?" Sairalinde smiled, "the renegade elf. she takes no sides and travels basically alone, though at times some Rangers or lone elves tag along with her. she's an elite fighter, and is always up for some sort of fight." Aragorn nodded, "i've heard of her, but where is she?" Tari snorted and cantered off into the forest, leaving the others behind. Brego whinnied after her.
