The early morning sunlight streamed through the trees of Rivendell, the light slanting beautifully through the green leaves leaving pools of silver light upon the springy grass. Tamuril looked up at the canopy of fair trees above before carrying on with her work. She lifted the hammer and turned the blade in her hand over to shape it's bright smouldering tip. Her father had taught her the ways of a Smith, but she had never been keen on the idea. What she had wanted to be all her life was a traveller. She longed to travel the world, to see the rest of it, for she had never left her fair city Rivendell, though she loved it as her home. The sound of the trees rustling and the sound of the cool breeze through the leaves came to her beneath the noise of the harsh crash of metal on metal from the hammer in her hand. Just then, an elf with a blackened apron appeared from the door of the Smithy behind Tamuril. He caught sight of her and his aged eyes crinkled in a smile at the sight of her. "Nice work on the body Tamuril but you never have got the hang of the tips. Here, let me show you." He took the hammer gently from her hands and bashed it into a perfect shape which Tamuril had been stuggling with. She smiled and looked up at her father "You know I'll never be a smith, father." "I know Tamuril, I just need some help sometimes, and you're not half bad either!" Tamuril smiled and looked down at the ground. "So, excited about your birthday Tamuril?" Findecáno, her father, said as he continued to shape the sword. He was a renowned smithy and was most famous for his talents in the craft for his creation of the blade which Isildur himself weilded to cut the finger of Sauron. However, Tamuril hadn't received the gift of the smithy, but was quite content with not having it. It was Tamuril's 50th birthday that day, and Findecáno was obviously planning something for it... He had a strange expression on his good-natured face, and Tamuril could read him like a book at times. She smiled saying "Father, you're planning something aren't you?" he looked up at her and gave her a wink. "Follow me. You'll ike this..." he beckoned her with a grimy finger and walked into the smithy and he lead her through it into the front where the shop front joined with the street. The door opened and a whole group of people stood there, shouting in unison "SURPRISE!" they parted and Findecáno through them to where a magnificent palomino stallion stood with silver leaves in his mane which had been plaited. He was fitted with brand a brand new waxed saddle, gleaming silver crafted reigns and a beautiful woven rug was placed beneath the saddle. Tamuril's eyes widened and her heart leapt with joy "Oh! Father!" she ran foward though appraoched slower when she came near the horse. "He's beautiful!" she smiled and hugged his muzzle, his gentle dark eyes looking into hers. She looked up at everyone, a beaming smile on her lips as she said "Thankyou so much everyone! This is the best present I could ever wish for!" she walked over to hug everyone, who congratulated her on her fine new steed. Findecáno called "What is his name, Tamuril? Such a fine beast deserves a fine name" there was a murmur of agreement among everyone as they looked at Tamuril. She looked at him and admired him from tip to toe and finally said "Elyndell" Findecáno smiled and looked at the horse too, "A fine name!" he laughed richly and walked towards Tamuril and hugged her.
After a party sitting in their house in the trees above the smithy, eating cake, talking and drinking fine elvish wine, Tamuril said her goodbyes to all and thanked them. She rushed down to the public stables which was situated down the path a few seconds away to where Elyndell was being attended to by a stable boy. She walked up to him and stroked his muzzle saying "We ride" he blinked slowly a though in agreement and she smiled again, taking him out and mounting him. She felt the hardness of a new saddle and the soft leather of the reigns in her hands before they were galloping down the road, streaking past elves and houses until they burst out of th eforse and into open fields. They rode for over an hour, enjoying the rush of adrenaline and the cold rush of the wind in her hair, which streamed out behind her like water. Already a bond had begun to grow between the two - Tamuril could tell this would be a long-lived and strong friendship as they finally returned to the city. They had ridden into the night, and the stars were already thrown out over the black sky like glitter.
Tamuril, little known by her father, was planning her leave of the city for the very next day, and she spent most of the morning packing her bags, until her father walked in. He looked around at the bags and his face fell slightly. "Where are you going Tamuril?" he asked quietly. She looked up saying "Father, I'm going away. To travel." she watched as his face fell further, the sadness already creeping into his dark, good-natured eyes. She stood up and embraced him, saying in his ear "Father. You will not be alone. Mother may be dead, but she still watches over us, and you also have everyone in Rivendell. All your friends..." he pulled away saying "I knew from when you were smaller even than this, that you wanted to travel. It has been your dream for all of your life, and I do not want to stop you Tamuril. I will not hold you back from life and I let you go with a father's blessing" his wide smile spread over his whether-beaten face as he embraced her again "Thankyou father!" she said and hugged him back, as she looked around her bedroom for the last time until she returned in many years time. Findecáno pulled away and smiled. "I will pepare you some food. I trust you have everything packed?" he asked Tamuril smiled and nodded
